Do you believe that if a hosting company's website has a good Google PR then it is a good company and safe to go with? In short does Google PR influence your decision?

I dont think a PR rating will influence consumers when shopping for hosting.

Not at all, I don't think it's important, but a good host cares about his web site position as well, so I think that it happens naturally, there's no wonder hosting and domain name registrar's sites like Eurodns.com have really high PR.
In terms of popularity it could be one factor but certainly not single factor to go with.

I wouldn't put anything into PR for hosting companies, high PR can occur just as easily when a lot of people are posting links complaining about the host as when they are praising it. Indeed you might benefit from being with a lesser known and hopefully less overloaded host.

Or you could simply spam your company posting links to it (will it work out this way?) at forums or review sites, so I don't think that PR is really significant unlike a site's web design.

Content is the main thing for SEO and PR not Web design IMO

If I am reviewing a new, unknown host - obviously yes. Noone want to host with a PR 1 or PR2 host - that is the sign of an ameatuer setup and might get closed tomorrow. A PR of 6 and above would give me some kind of assurance about the stability of the company even though it is not an indicator of the quality of the host in anyway.

The short answer is no, however this is something to consider when making decision which hosting company to use.

I'd add: PR and company reputation are things which cannot be put togather.

Page rank is not the criteria to judge whether a website is worthwile or not. PR is only a tool to gauge back links of your website.
Further, PR has no relationship with the actual rankings of your website. If your website is having a PR6, then it doesnt imply that you would be ranking on top for each and every keyword.
Search engines give importance to wide range of SEO activities and even search engines do not rely on PR data before granting rankings. I have personally witnessed websites with PR 1 beating a PR 4-5 website.
You should try to concentrate on improving overall SEO score ( onpage + offpage + content + links etc) rather than spending energy on PR :o

Fully agree with that. Sometimes company with great PR might have less sales then other with PR0. I think that the main goal of all that and SEO as well is getting relevant and target visitors which will increase your sales and income.
