Hi, this is my first post up to HSF so please be nice :p

I am looking for an ISP. My requirements are:-

- cheap, around 5 bucks a month
- unlimited domains
- >250 GB space, pref unlimited but really will I ever use that?
- unlimited b'width
- php/mySQL (I build using Modx cms)
- cPanel or better (is there better?)
- htaccess file adaption
- mod_rewrite can be enabled
- er, as many extras as I can get
- and the capacity to stream lots of my clients' video

My question is:-

Which providers in this bracket allow the most simultaneous connections? Because surely 'unlimited bandwidth' is pointless if you are only allowed x sim connects? Or am I missing something???

For example, HostMonster tell me they allow 20 simultaneous streams, which they explain means only 20 users can be watching video at any one time. Shouldn't they mean, that only 20 db queries can be made at any one time? And doesn't that mean someone can be watching a video, and because they have already pulled the data from the base, that they are no longer actually simultaneous?

For another example, IX tell me they allow 60 simultaneous connections...which sounds 3x better. Is it, or am I missing something?

(I miss a lot!)

So, any info on simultaneous connections would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone happens to know which ISP's, allowing my spec above, provide however many, then wow thank you super-duper.

As an aside, isn't unlimited bandwidth a bit of a con, given the limit on simultaneous connections? I note in the marketing spiel, no ISP's seem to mention simultaneous connections.

Cheerio, and thank you for thgis forum, folks.

That is dedicated server at list with huge HDDs ;) and you will never find such dedicated server for $5 or less - good luck.
I wonder whre have you been previously hosted and what the project you are running?

I don't think that you'll get what you want just for $5. It's impossible. Taking into consideration all your requirements you need a dedi at least. The cheapest I know is from Serverpoint.com for $79.99 per month and ServerBeach.com for $75 per month.

I believe that we won't be able to offer the cheap solution (Under $5 per month)

I believe that a reputable company will never provide dedis under $5.

As if a small company would provide dedi for $5 :p
These days, one can get huge space for $5 on shared servers. Most oversellers offer as much as 1.5 TB for a $5 package. The catch is going to be mysql connections, CPU usage etc. But if you simply have lot of files to store and very little traffic, I guess it should not be a problem with shared hosting.

Dedi's under $5?

You can find shared hosting for that, but look to spend more for reliability.
