I am agree with you and I think the quality of the content is really important factor after google updates.

Backlinks and quality content are two most important factors which is affecting SEO. Domain age and quantity of backlinks are not affecting SEO because if domain is very old but it has low quality content and backlinks then it would not useful for SEO.

If talk about quantity of backlinks then if quantity is good but they are come from bad neighborhood then they will affect SEO in the negative way because chances will increase to get penalty form search engine.
