Yes absolutely right that these techniques are useful to promote only the sites not for getting back links because as per Google’s guidelines (link schemes) we should not put dofollow link at third party website because it is one type of natural non editorial way of link building for which website’s ranking will negatively impact by search engine.

But yes by writing unique, fresh and quality content for the sources especially guest posting and article will help to build natural editorial backlinks means link building done by third person for us because of good content which is also known as co-citation in SEO.
