Hello all,
I'm currently trying to setup a personal web hosting service for my friends where they get an area of web space, etc, for them to use. Basically, a free web hosting service, etc with PHP, and all possible.
Does anyone know how I could go about setting this service up? ( If I were to get a HostGator/webspace account, etc)
Thank in advance.

When you are choosing to host a website on a hosting server, then you will need to just order a proper domain name and select your type of plan as according to your need. The hosting setup is done from the server side automatically. In case you need any additional settings, the support will only be glad to help you, in the way you need to set it for your friends. You will be given a control panel to administer your domain name, add folders/emails/databases etc and additionally can use FTP to upload any web pages to the server to make the page displayed on the internet.

Well, the first thing you need to do is to register domain name - it should be unique, short and memorable. As for recommendation, sibername.com offers a great number of extensions at low price. Secondly, you have to buy reseller account at hosting company. You know, it takes a lot of time and patience to find a good, reliable and stable company - it is not an easy thing to do. You can look at glowhost.com as I have had a good run with this company...

I think that reseller accounr will be more then enough for you. That is always easy to manage.

A Cpanel hosting would be quite easy for you to manage, it is simple and you can setup your friends domains quickly with ease. Cpanel servers do provide php-mysql, and incase you need more than 1 domain to be hosted , you can even go in for a cpanel reseller hosting.

Not reseller. Multiple domain hosting will be more then enough

Although you could begin using the free hosting services easily, but the shared hosting accounts are really great nowadays. You could figure this out easily by taking a look at the prices for the shared accounts offered today which are really great plus you will get loads of options and possibilities, including the easy to install applications and more.

I'd get a reseller account in case they want to access their own control panel at some point.
