First and foremost thing you must remember is to choose a web hosting company to host your website for you. Hosting prices depends on the nature of your website and also on the amount of traffic you expect; extremely popular websites can expect to pay for a more expensive plan, or to pay extra bandwidth charges.

After that you will need to create content for your website which must be unique and informative and should be related to your business. Mostly, you will already have or more programs that can be used to save web pages in the HTML format. For instance, both the 100% free OpenOffice suite and Microsoft Office offer a “Save As” HTML capability in their word processor software. You can easily create web pages with these tools. It is much like writing any other document, with the addition of the ability to make links to other pages and websites.

Once your web page is created you can easily Upload it through FTP program. You will receive the FTP login details from dedicated hosting provider. And once it is done you website is published on the web.

Do you think that someone who has very little knowledge about wbesite building can build one from scratch or do they need to hire someone?

It really depends on the person and how much time/effort they want to put in their website. There are really tons of tutorials and communities which are a great help, but some people just prefer to hire an outside contractor because the don't have the time or willingness to read and improve their personal knowledge along the way. Of course there are pro's and con's to both ways...

I am personally all up for self-learning. When I first started in the hosting business, I had little to no idea about this Ancient Foreign God, called "Web Hosting". Just like my other colleagues there, pretty soon I decided to have a website of my own - a small personal blog. Choosing WordPress, I had a variety of free resources I could take advantage of, so I spend the next week or two educating myself and learning more about it, tweaking some stuff on my test environment and generally getting a feel of how things operate. Less than a month ago I had a decent-looking blog with the all the functionalities I wanted. And that's just a simple example for a blog, which is generally easier, but the same goes for e-shops, forums, social networking etc. - even if you don't get the desired result on the first try, there are so many different options out there, that you'll be sure to find at least one that suits you. On the other hand, there is a certain amount of risk involved - any user, being novice or pro, can make a nasty error and this is where your the good hosting provider comes on the stage. Having a realiable hosting partner, with understanding of the scripts they provide, is key! You can afford to make a mistake, but your Hosting Company shouldn't! Failing to find a good host can make your efforts to build a website alone, totally worthless.

Hiring a professional also has its perks - you leave the website building aside and can concentrate on other important aspects of your business - marketing, sales, content writing etc. Further more a knowledgeable person can offer improvements on your original ideas and can expand the capabilities of your project. But the downfalls coming with that option can also be significant. Choosing an unknown person for your needs always leaves room for the possibility that they are not experienced or skillful enough to handle your project. Moreover you cannot be aware if this person will work loyally, meet deadlines or worse - in my experience there is a constant increase of webmasters or designers that will just hijack your project and leave you empty-handed. Hiring a freelancer, which does not reside near you, can make the whole process of website building very long and the results may still vary, because you are lacking the personal interraction. Its not always easy to explain your visions in written wording, and if you cannot show this person what you mean, you can end up exchanging countless emails about something insignificant that can be done in 2minutes if its properly explained.

Its really a matter of personal choice and each way can give you controversial results, so make sure to cover the basic risk factors and you can safely embrace one option or the other afterwards.

These are pretty good points which really make sense, setting up a website is not easy at all. Only the professionals will be able to make it with positive effect.

You can set up a free blog on WordPress.com.
That’s a great choice if you’re publishing for friends, family or for free.

This true, it is very important to have some standards in choosing the right web hosting domain, first thing you need to do before anything else is to get yourself a domain name. This is the name you want to give to your website.

Taking the advantage of the opportunity, can recommend Gigapros hosting - their support is helpful with setup.
Pricing is reasonable. Overall they're just a great company. I'm going to sign up another account with Gigapros for a new website next week or so.

Highly Recommended this host!

In order to become the host for your own site, you will have to follow the next four steps:

1. Get a unique address for your future site - buy a domain.

If you use free services and agree with all the risks connected with these services, then your site will be located on a subdomain given by a free hosting company ( for example, yoursite.blogspot.com). More reliable (from site control point of view) and more trustworthy (from users' point of view) variant will be buying a domain for yourself.

2. To make your site available for the visitors, you will need to buy hosting.

This means renting space on disk drive and the ability to use already functioning software of the constantly operational computer, located in a special building, constantly connected to the Internet, no-break power supply and having all the programs installed and configured by the specialists.

In general, this is a technically difficult service, but as a user you will get it as a ready made service.

3. Think over the site design and make templates for the basic pages.

The best method is to choose the site engine - CMS and select a good-looking template for it. For example, a popular CMS Wordpress offers a great variaty of free templates (http://wordpress.org/themes/ - 1,764 themes).

4. Fill in the site with information- text, illustrations.

This means to prepare all documents, design the site pages and their contents - write your own site texts (or order them from article writers), draw pictures, prepare photos and video or download them from photo stocks.

Please pay attention that all the questions described in steps 1-3 can be quickly resolved with the help of Fatcow (webhostingw.com/go/fatcow) company where you can buy cheap american hosting for $3.15 per month. Additionally, you will get a free domain, site builder, blog autoinstaller and many other useful bonuses.

First choose a domain name then if it is a serious business it is better to turn to a professional web designer perhaps someone who deals in E Commerce Websites (http://www.mapitinc.com/ecommerce-website-design.php) designs as they will understand the requirements of your business. Most of the well reputed companies these days help their clients in providing reliable web hosting companies also depending on the purpose of the site.

Go to your control panel. Look for the “WordPress” or “Website” icon. Choose the domain where you want to install your website. Click the “Install Now” button and you will get access to your new WordPress website.
