What is Wildcard SSL Certificate?

Wildcard SSL Certificate is one type of internet security certificate which secure your single domain within number of sub domains on a single server. It is works like normal SSL Certificate means protect your data through encryption and decryption process while transferring on the server.

Why Wildcard SSL?

Wildcard SSL is the best option to secure main domain and its unlimited number of sub domains also within one Wildcard Certificate.

For example :

xyz.com
www.xyz.com
blog.xyz.com
mail.xyz.com
photos.xyz.com

Wildcard SSL is good for big organization and ecommerce websites (https://www.ssl2buy.com/wildcard-ssl-certificate) as well as those businesses also whose business runs over the trust level of the people. Hence this certificate will help them to secure main domain as well as its sub domain also to gain trust of the people.

I think wildcard certificates are complete domain validated as well as some wildcard such as thawte wildcard ssl, Comodo SGC SSL, Symantec Wildcard SSL etc. are Organiztion Validated SSL certificates.

Its also easy to install wildcard ssl certificate to domain. For complete installation guide i have visited some docs. and get the installation guide for wildcard ssl in apache and IIS server at, http://bit.ly/wild-card-ssl
