You primarily have Windows or Linux based hosting. Linux is more flexible in scripting for php scripts, and Windows is better for ASP scripts. So depends on what you plan on doing. Linux based is the most popular

Apache is the most wide-spread server software, it is really good and free. There are some other software, which is also used very well - Zeus - the best example of the provider using zeus is ServerPoint.com - very reliable and really stable company, what could tell us that zeus is stable software. Also there is another server called litespeed, which is six times faster than Apache, and used by such provider as simplehelix.com whose main business direction is eCommerce.

I use linux as it free, stable and can run for a good while. Plus most web hosting software it free. But I use cpanel which that isn't.

I'm interested on the unlimited package like hostgator or hostmonster with cheapest price. Windows is better for me.

I prefer linux. You can offer just as much with linux as windows are for a cheaper rate and a more stable server (if configured right).

Linux is preferred over windows, and apache webserver is much more easily customizable for the needs of hosting.

Why are you talking about operating systems when it is asked about a webserver?

Apache is most popular because of being free and realiable software, supporting everything needed for hosting. Also there are companies which use Zeus. This webserver is a paid software and thus has to be more stable and hack-proof.

Also there is a server called litespeed. It is six times faster than apache and obviously even faster than Zeus. But this server doesn't support all the applications that Apache does, including cPanel control panel, so its only, but weighty advantage is speed. The only company (http://www.simplehelix.com) I know to use that server is simplehelix, which specializes in eCommerce hosting.

There is nothing like an idea server software/os. It depends on your needs, the technologies you want to work on and a number of subjective parameters. For small / cheap sites and hosting, obviously LAMP is the ideal platform. Enterprice web applications can be .net/java running on a number of web/application servers on windows/linux/solaris etc.

We use apache 2.0 now. Have considered moving over to lightspeed due to the speed benefits for some of our streaming clients.

Take Apache. This is most wide-spread and stable webserver which supposrts everything and works good. Have extra money choose zeus, but this is hardly necessary.

I agree with your statement. You need to go with the solution which is comfortable for you first of all

Apache is my favorite for sure. I have had many great experiences with it. Linux also is very stable which is why I like it for the web hosting industry.

Just my two sense.

I prefer Linux Web hosting. This is not just my opinion, but many people prefer Linux Hosting services for web hosting. One of the main cause people prefers Linux Web Hosting is for the reason that it is an exposed source platform. Web programmers can change, develop and share it to the public. There is a universal body of users that are continuously working to increase its functionality and fix bugs. http://virpus.com/

I agree with Mark Bronius. Both Linux & Windows are good depend on your usage and requirement. However, Linux come with more flexibility and features in my opinion. Besides, they are plenty of online resources for Linux support and references to help us. Just google "the benefit of linux hosting" then you will get ample of information to consider between Linux vs. Windows.

Most web hosting servers operate either on Linux or Windows operating system. Linux is the most used OS for web hosting and Windows is generally used when a specific Windows based requirement is felt to run a Windows specific application. Linux is more popular because it is available as an open source software, offers more flexibility and security.

It is ideal to use Linux web hosting (https://www.znetlive.com/shared-hosting/), if there is no specific need for Windows environment. Based on your special needs, you can even use other options like Apache.

Every business, even if it only has one employee, needs a website. Seriously. A company without a website is leaving serious money on the table, because an attractive and informative Web presence can draw a slew of potential clients or customers. That means choosing a Web hosting service and setting up your website.
