I am tired of this 1 year, 2 year domain expiry...And top of it, if one forgets to renew the domain name, your complete efforts of building a brand name goes down the drain.

I ask everyone...is it possible to buy a domain name for life?

I think there is no such thing as lifetime domain names.

depends on the registrar... mostly registrar have option to register domain name for more than one year go and buy domain for 5-6 year and use domain lock feature to keep it safe ..

You have to pay for the whole year for hosting if you want to get free domain name.
I'd recommend you to register domains via reputed Domain Registrars and don't deal with domain resellers.
As for reliable one, can draw your attention to SiberName.com (http://SiberName.com/) as it is good Canadian ICAN-accredited Domain Registrar.
You can trust them.

Register your domain for 3 years and I think it is enough...

Longest possible term is 10 Years for domains. In earlier 2000, Network solutions comes with such offers but stopped within some months.

As per Registry norms, registry gives max registration of 10 yrs. only, so even if any company offering beyond that, it means they are going to renew automatically every yr.

Its better to register a domain for 10 yrs. and then every 2 - 3 yrs, login into your panel and extend the renewal for max period again.

I think you check your email on daily basis and hosting provided company inform you many time before expiring domain or hosting. and there is no such way for life time.

You cannot buy a domain name for life time. But you can register a domain name and keep renewing it for any much of time. A domain name can be registered for maximum 10 years. You can see the expiry of a domain name by having a whois search at WhoisXY.com (http://www.whoisxy.com/) Good luck.

There is no such option for taking a domain for life time. You may purchase and renew it then for some years.
