I used to think anything other than .com will not generally rank well. Thanks for sharing your practical experience...

Domain extension has no bearing on SEO. The country where your website can have. I believe a goDaddy website even if a .co.uk is actaully hosted in the USA and Google will put it lower down the rankings for searches done in the UK
