Directory submission is submitting your website information to various website directories. Social bookmarking is submitting a news of your website to various social bookmarking websites.

Both are elementary link building techniques. Directory submission is the process of submitting website details in various web directories where as bookmarking is sharing website to others using online bookmarking sites.

See, Both are use for back links in SEO. Generally it's a traditional way to start SEO with the Web Directory than SB. In web directory we will submit a website on particular keyword. In this we write title like keyword and also description is small, we can't make a friends, groups etc.. In social bookmarking, it gives more traffic, we make friends, groups, one things we can submit a link with his tag, it's description becomes long compare to directory submission.....
