The email client is a relaying server, or a human typing on a terminal. It is a computer program which is capable of accessing and managing user's email mailbox.
Client based email: When you receive email using a program like Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, you have to use POP3 address and a username and password.
Web based email: When you log on to Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail like application with some machine on the internet and log on with username password.

email client and web mail both reqire internet connection but the difference is that in email client we work offline but in web mail we don't work offline. in email client we can read or compose email offline, when internet is on, email automatically send to that very person.

Email client is a desktop application that enables configuring one or more email addresses to receive, read, compose and send emails from that email address(s) through the desktop interface. It provides a central interface for receiving, composing and sending emails of configured email address(s).
