Always the golden rule to choose a good domain name is, the domain name must be short and simple, easy to remember, try to choose a ".com" extension domain name. But the real fact is almost all possible short and easy to remember domain names have been already taken. Though all the good domain names have been already taken, only few of them are being used. Most of them are kept parked for sales. Such domain names can be obtained by having a domain bargain from the current registrant. The contact details of a domain name holder can be obtained by having a whois lookup at WhoisXY.com (http://www.whoisxy.com/)

10 to 15 character long domain name is good for all of the websites.long domain name is not a very good effect on site.like olx.com is just 3 character and fb.com is just 2 characters.short domain name is more benefit on search engine.

22 charters was the initial limit, before the limit was reset to 65 characters. Therefore, for a long time, everyone had to work within that limit.
I'd say 22 characters is a good outer limit, though I hold a few that are slightly longer.
If you go longer then it's a question of robustness. For example: State+Category+Directory/Guide/Etc might work, from the perspective of accurate description, generic, memorable, etc.

The best way to decide the length or to choose a domain name is
1. To keep it as short as possible
2. Should be clear and don’t have double meaning, as it may negatively affect your identity.
3. Should be easy to remember and have a high recall value

Domain name should be as short as possible, minimum characters should be 12-15. Always try to chose domain for targeted audience. For example if your doing business in Pakistan then top level country code should be priority. (.PK) extensions is the better choice for this porous.
Generic domain extensions also a better choice, but I will go a choice that is specific for the country in which you want to have internet appearance.
I think 15-20 character long is perfect. You can use 50 character long.

In my opinion a domain name length should not cross 15 characters because it not only makes it hard for people to remember but also seems spammy. Instead try looking for something short and simple using unique names. Use a short unique brand name and combine it with your service name to create a name for your domain.

Length of a domain generally depends on the brand name, your name, business related keywords and your location.

shorter isn't always better, but as long as the words together don't make a weird name, then it's all fine. Avoid something like www.therapistfinder.com :D Some funny names here: http://www.boredpanda.com/worst-domain-names/

According to all the new (short or long) TLDs I understand your considerations but 'the length of a domain should be the amount of the characters left side of the dot.
For example, 63.DOMAINS have 63 characters, equal how long the TLD itself is.

For me this are the "must do" when choosing a domain name:
1 choose a name that can be a branded
2 name that's easy to pronounce
3 should be as short as possible, but no shorter, don't force it
4 .com, not 100% sure but I always try to get a .com
5 don't infringe on trademarks, in the best case you'll lose them
6 make the name intuitive
7 use keywords when possible in the domain name

There are no set guidelines for the length of domain names. Obviously, the shorter, the better, but it needs to relate somehow to the content on your site.

An area name can be the length of 253 characters on the whole - however it's uncommon that one is. Here are some intriguing insights identified with area name length.
As indicated by a report from area commercial center SEDO, amid 2011 the most prevalent length for any name exchanged on the commercial center was 8 characters - the longest was 42 characters.

In the main 100 sites, the longest space is 17 characters. The majority of this data demonstrates that you should keep your space name concise. Go for 6-14 characters – and recollect: the shorter, the better. In all likelihood the shorter area names are taken a LONG time back and sold for a large number of dollars.

253 characters is the maximum length of full domain name, including dots: e.g. www.example.com = 15 characters.
63 characters in the maximum length of a "label" (part of domain name separated by dot). Labels for www.example.com are com, example and www.
This is an example of the domain with longest possible label (a fully working website BTW): http://www.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrst uvwxyzabcdefghijk.com/. The domain name length = 71 characters.
This will be an example of longest domain name: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwx yzabcde.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnop qrstuvwxyzabcdefghijk.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzab cdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijk.abcdefghijklmn opqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijk. com
- In general, when it comes to the length of your domain, shorter is better. According to research from DataGenetics.com, a blog by Nick Berry, the most common name length is approximately 12 characters.

The maximum number of characters you can have in a website address left of the "." is 63 characters. That's an awfully long URL and we don't recommend choosing such a lengthy domain in any circumstances.

Refer to the domain name, I think the shorter is better, and another important thing is the word must be easy to remember and catchy.

When it comes to a domain name, less is more. Shorter names are easier to remember and to type, which means users are more likely to find you. It's also easier to stand out when there's less to read. It's a good idea not to exceed 2-3 words.

Aim for 6-14 characters & remember the shorter, the better.
Most likely the shorter domain (https://easy.gr/en/domains) names are taken a LONG time ago and sold for thousands of dollars. If you can't find something short, make it brandable.
