If you don’t then a baddie may get access to your computer via that vulnerability. It is a well known fact that baddies will always be on alert for new vulnerabilities to exploit computer systems - what fails is people not patching fast enough.

Encrypt your drive(s) - if your computer is stolen then its quite easy to take the hard drive out of your computer and attached it to another to see the files. Encrypting your drive removes that ability.

For your general day-to-day user account do not have local admin rights - if you need to install or remove software then have another user account on your computer that you can log into and perform those actions. Malicious software such as malware, viruses, key loggers most of the time need the current user account to have local admin rights to install itself on the computer.

- Use Linux-based OS like Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, etc.
- Always encrypt your storage drive
- Use a pass-phrase instead of a password which should be long enough
- Do not install unknown software
- Prefer Free and Open Source Softwares
