HTML site maps are very easy to navigate by the user but not by the search engine and they lack in the area where they can;t be updated by itself whereas in XML sitemap this is not the case. In that it is not for the internet user but it is for the search engine. It is easily understood by the search engine.

XML for Search Engines and their Crawlers which useful to index your web pages and HTML is for Users if they can't find their required topic or information or can't get right term to search then they must prefer to check out HTML Sitemap.

The HTML sitemap is for humans. It is a quick map/overview of the pages on your site which are listed using links (with anchor text). People can use it to locate a page they need quickly and easily.

The XML sitemap is for search engine spiders/bots. It is there to tell the search engines which URLs are part of your website. It appears as code. It helps the search engines find pages that they might miss on a normal crawl and it is also good if you have dynamic content or is new. Submit the XML sitemap as a feed in webmaster tools.

Sitemaps are used to assist Googlebots to understand the structure of your website URLs, frequency of update and priority of the pages whereas HTLM sitemap is used to assist the crawler to crawl other pages via internal page and navigation strategies. By this type of sitempe, google is unable to understand frequency and priority of the pages. XML sitemap can also be submitted in Google webmaster tools whereas html sitemap could not be. However, both xml and html sitemaps are useful. XML sitemap is most better than HTML in regards to Googlebot, but by XML sitemap your sitemap navigation or user experience do not improve because it is not designed on user basis.

A sitemap is a way of informing Google and other search engines about the web pages of a website. Search engines via Sitemap can discover the web pages of a website and index them. A sitemap should contain all major webpages and sub-pages in a given website, this helps search engines to navigate the website easily and index its pages. There are two types of Sitemaps i.e. XML and HTML Sitemaps.
