You know a link is spammy when it sits in a domain and redirect to another domain that is completely irrelevant to the first domain with respect to content, action or anything. You can also observe that the domain where you gets redirected to will also be a low quality site with respect to on page optimization, content etc.

You need to check it manually. Site with low or copied contents, door way pages, hidden texts etc are said to be spammy.

Is there an accurate way to detect spammy backlinks?
Put a domain into Ahrefs Site Explorer tool and choose Backlink profile > Referring domains report from the left menu. ...
You can now sort out these domains by various metrics. ...
Low UR/DR metric doesn't necessarily mean spam, as it may mean that the site from which that link originated is new.

Spammy links—also known as low quality backlinks—are ones which are pointed to your domain from spam or poor authority sites. They can be easily identified by a sharp spike in traffic to your domain, often from countries outside of those which form your core audience.

In any of the cases, the very first thing to do is find the list of the website's backlinks in Google Webmaster Tools. You can also use Ahrefs, Majestic SEO or SEOmoz to get a complete list of backlinks. Which Backlinks are Toxic? The best way is to look at each of the links and find out where they are coming from.

There are a handful of metrics in our industry that are readily available to help point out concerning backlinks. The two that come to mind most often are Moz Spam Score and Majestic Trust Flow (or, better yet, the difference between Citation Flow and Trust Flow).
