On a shared hosting account clients share the same server resources. Because of its affordability its considered the best choice for small websites.

So I take it thats why when you get shared hosting they make sure you know what your cpu and ram limits are? Also is share hosting less secure or more secure that dedicated hosting?

you got it right, many hosts limit resources usage to make sure the server stays online. Security is relative, it depends on how the server is configured.

Is there any major disadvantages to shared hosting to dedicated hosting? or are the disadvantages pretty much similar? or are there major advantages to dedicated than shared?

on a dedicated you have root access, more resources to handle your site charge. on a shared account you don't have to worry about the server since the provider takes care of it, its much more affordable.
I suggest you start with a shared account and upgrade as your site grows.
ps: you can still get a fully managed dedicated server and not worry about its functioning.

Yes, so that you will not waste unnecessary resources on the hosting cost which is quite expensive on dedicated hosting plan.
When you website traffic is getting higher and your website require most spaces and resources, then only you can make a decision to change to dedicated hosting plan.
The only advantages of shared hosting to dedicated hosting is that the cost needed to own an account is relatively cheap.
Speaking about the total resources allocated and most importantly, the security, is obvious that dedicated hosting plan play a major role in it.
By the way, Oracle, do you plan to register for a new hosting plan or you currently already have one?

I believe that all depends on the sizes you are working on with hosting. Of course there are a lot of diffrences but they are here because of the size

For sites anticipating minimal traffic, a shared hosting plan could provide a less costly option compared with a dedicated server.
In shared hosting, the provider is generally responsible for management of servers, installation of server software, security updates, technical support and other aspects of the service.
where multiple sites are hosted on a single server, so each account ends up sharing server space with other accounts.
This is an economic solution for smaller and personal websites-
that is Shared Hosting all about; :)

With share web hosting you share server with other customers and all of you happy. Once you are not happy you will shift to higher plan. That is so called web hosting evolution

It is like living at the hostel :) compared to VPS and Dedicated. Of course it is cheaper and many people are OK with their shared hosting accounts because they do not need dedicated resources.

What is shared hosting?
Shared hosting accommodates multiple Websites on a single server by allocating each site its own "slice" of server space. By doing this, hosting companies can maximize their use of each server while reducing the cost for shared hosting customers. Although many Websites reside on the same server, shared hosting customers cannot access each other's sites. Customers get access to a Web-based control panel that lets them maintain and update their own sites, while the hosting company manages the server itself.
A shared hosting account is also typically cheaper and easier to maintain than a more expensive dedicated account.
Shared hosting, also known as virtual hosting, is typical for budget and entry-level hosting services. It can provide ample disk space, bandwidth and functionality for many personal, hobby or small-business Websites, and is available for both the Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems. It can even offer security for online transactions through a shared SSL certificate, which is available in many basic hosting plans.
The typical shared hosting account often includes such features as a file manager, email accounts, WebMail, email forwarding and autoresponders, FTP access, password-protected directories, database, Server Side Includes and site statistics.
Many companies that provide shared hosting also offer additional features like wizard-based site design, site templates, search engine marketing, shopping carts and scripts for Weblogging discussion forums, form generation, content management and more.
When considering a shared hosting provider, look for a company that can also provide 24/7 customer service, how-to guides or FAQs. Depending on your Website needs, you might also want to seek out a host that offers add-on services such as additional disk space and bandwidth.
For basic hosting needs, a shared plan is usually the best and most cost-effective choice.

The amount of traffic isn't the most important factor for deciding between shared and dedicated. It's the control over the server and the ability to install the applications you need, plus your own server management that may give you peace of mind.

I agreed with Natcoweb.com you can find shared hosting with unlimited bandwith and unlimited space, however if you want setup special application, use a application server or some others software you should be think in a Virtual Private Server or a Dedicated server.

compared to a dedicated hosting server shared hosting is nothing. though a dedicated hosting server is too costly than a shared hosting server. But if you want to run a web business you must need to buy a dedicated server then you will enjoy unlimited speed and bandwidth easily.
