The only technical difference between the two is that a nofollow link has a nofollow tag. As a user, it's impossible to tell the difference between a nofollow and dofollow link. ... In fact, according to Google, nofollow links don't pass any PageRank. Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links.

A dofollow link will pass the SEO strength, or "PageRank" of the page to the site that it links to. A nofollow link, in theory, will not do this. That's the main difference between the two.

A no follow link is a link that does not count as a point in the page's favor, does not boost PageRank, and doesn't help a page's placement in the SERPs. No follow links get no love. Theirs is a sad and lonely life. The nofollow tag is basically a notice sign for search engines saying “don't count this.”

Nofollow vs. dofollow. From the technical point of view, the only difference between a nofollow link and a standard “dofollow” link is the presence of the rel=”nofollow” tag. The practical difference is that nofollow links do not pass the link equity (also known as “link juice”).
