I would prefer not to go with Wordpress, because they don't let you put up ads, and they can put up their own on your blog.

I think it's a better overall to just download Wordpress and host it yourself for a reasonable price. It's really not that much work, just a steep learning curve at the start.

I think you're right. If it's earning that you're after then go for Blogger but if you're just after a blog that is some kind of a daily journal then you could go for Wordpress (the free version). But if you download Wordpress and install it then I think that would be better for a money earning blog site.
