Hi dennis123!

Yes, it does affect your site rankings. If you want to track or monitor on your site, use Google Analytics so you can fix them. Google will warn you about an increase in 404 errors on your site in Webmaster Tools. And if you don’t fix those errors, Google will eventually remove the specific page from their index and if you have lot of 404 errors, Google will eventually hurt your overall rankings.

Hope it would help you! :)

The HTTP 404 Not Found Error means that the webpage you were trying to reach could not be found on the server. It is a Client-side Error which means that either the page has been removed or moved and the URL was not changed accordingly, or that you typed in the URL incorrectly.

If your website returns a HTTP status code other than 404 (or 410) for a non-existent page, it can negatively impact the the website’s performance in organic search. Firstly, by failing to serve a 404 status code, your website is telling search engines that there’s a real page at the URL they’re attempting to access. As a result, the URL you’ve deleted (with no content) will be crawled and indexed, thus wasting valuable crawl budget.

404 error is shown for broken links. Such links could not show information and should be removed as soon as possible.

ou can create the page contents for a 404 status code page and substitute it for the 404 page that the browser usually provides.

If some of the pages that 404 are pages you actually care about, you should look into why we’re seeing 404s when we crawl them! If you see a misspelling of a legitimate UR
