Does anyone have an accurate measurement on the total number of companies that offer web hosting in the USA? This would include all the large players, all the way down to the 1-5 server smaller hosting companies?

I think I got it. Approx 2,500 companies with more than 5-10 servers that call themselves hosting providers and then around 100,000 companies that either resell hosting from the 2,500 or they have <5-10 servers and offer hosting.

This is for the USA.

i think this is a question like how many stars in the sky. Because there are an innumerable number of web hosting company in usa. People could easily get their own server and hosting by using high speed internet and desktop at home.

You will find a long list probably and by using Google you can find listings and web directories providing the data. I once found such a thing but have forgotten the address.

The companies were listed according to their shared and dedicated or Linux and Windows packages as well the prices ranging from $25 - $99 a year and higher amounts for the dedicated accounts.

There are lots of them reallY!

I do not think the complete list exist. You woud have to look through the several lists comparing them.

It's very hard to find exact number of hosting providers in US. Searching in Directories and Google will give you many results but again it may not be the exact figures.

Doesn't matter the real count, what matters is the big players. there would be around 50 of them.

Hard to say, there are probably thousands of small hosts who sell space from a VPS or reseller accocunts, managing it part time. if you are lookign for a list of top providers from US, here it is:
