How to protect DDOS attack

I saw one web site down several hours .
Later they claim that it was due to DDOS attack.

I have similar website like that web site.

Thus I am worried too.

How can I protect my website from DDOS attack.

Firewall like CSF
but most usually its going to be stopped and effected at your data centers level. That is usually what gets affected the most.
