The great thing about WordPress is that it is so easy to use. If you have read our previous article, Start Your Work-From-Home Website With WordPress, you'll already know how to install WordPress, find a great theme and create a range of pages and posts.

But the simplicity of WordPress hides an advanced system that, with a little bit of extra knowledge, can be made to do incredible things. Just looking at a few of the websites that are powered by WordPress as a content management system (CMS) says it all - WordPress makes building a site easier, but never limits what you can do.

Moving your site to a new web host is a time consuming process. It is important that you choose your WordPress hosting provider carefully.

If you are looking for a shared hosting provider, then we recommend you to go with Bluehost. They are one of the official WordPress hosting providers. Not to mention with our Bluehost coupon, WPBeginner users get 50% off and a free domain name.

If you’re looking for cloud hosting or location specific providers, then we recommend you to check out Siteground. They have data centers across 3 different continents.

If there is an existing website in the root directory, remove it. It may be another WordPress installation or it may be a static website.

If it’s a WordPress website, make a backup as detailed above, and then delete all of the WordPress files in the root

The first thing you'll want to do is evaluate your site. You'll want to find out where in your previous host which folder your website files are stored. You will also want to find out if you are using any databases, and if so, how you can obtain a backup of them. It is best to contact your current hosting company to obtain this information as it does vary from web host to web host.

You need to carry out the data migration. It isn't difficult and the risky task still it needs to be done very precisely.

Well you can o all of that but wordpress has made it really convenient and taken all the hard work out of moving one website to another. There are plugin which will export your website database and change urls to images and resources for your dynamically. Duplicator and all in one migration plugin are tow such plugins on the wordpress repository. Just always make sure to back up your website before you do this process. Sometimes i have found minor troubleshooting is required but all in all its alot faster than doing a manual export. File a migration request with your new web host. Usually all you need to do is to provide login data at your old host – hostname, control panel login, and FTP login, etc; and your new web host will take care of the rest.
