The dot-com bubble has burst, corporate spending is in a holding pattern and enterprises are deferring e-business infrastructure technology and services purchasing. As a result, revenue growth in the U.S.Web hosting market has definitely slowed.

The primary factor behind the Web hosting company slowdown is the state of the economy, IDC said. In 2000 there were many components helping to drive growth in Web hosting including a robust U.S. economy, a vigorous IT industry and the Internet. All of that changed in 2001 but nevertheless, enterprises are only just beginning to leverage the full potential of Web hosting based opportunities and the market will continue to grow.

Yes, I do feel that the hosting industry is feeling the effects of the down economy. The positive side to all of this is that even though business may be going under, a web site is a relatively cheap way to keep your business going. It's expensive to pay for a building, licenses, and employees....but it's cheap to keep a web site compared to the other three. With that said, hopefully not all is lost ;)

Probably is something temporary ( few years ). The competition is also huge.

The hosting industry is still very powerful I believe because the firms are regularly upgrading their packages and offering more resources at lower prices.

This can be noticed when you look at the number of accounts they are selling.

They are obviously overselling and that talks about the competition. Cloud hosting is going to be more popular in the near future and it would be interesting to see how shared hosts cope with the technological change/ challenge.

That is not popular right now and if it going to be more popular soon I assume it will be. But now that is impossible to estimate how things will be proceed

In my opinion there is something wrong with the hosting industry itself. It is a baloon. How do you imagine "unlimited" bandwidth and disk space packages for a few bucks a month. First of all, there is nothing unlimited, second the price is way too low. Things were just fine a few years ago when a regular shared hosting package was around $10-$15. But now, it is going into a disaster. A month of hosting (which is a serious service) can't be cheaper than a pack of cigarettes.

I agree. Hopefully with the economy, many will give up and people who are providing reliable services with thrive.

Enterprises are streamlining their internal business processes and openingnew channels for customer service and product/service delivery, distribution, and procurement by leveraging application servers toWeb-enable their core business applications and using the Internet as atransactional and connectivity medium for intra- and inter-companyexchanges

but dont worry, all this problems are only for the next one year. SEe the huge jump in this industry next year.
