A subdomain is a second website, with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and change the www to another name.

Basically subdomain is separate domain which is a part of larger domain. A subdomain expresses relative dependence, not absolute dependence.
For example : forums.hotsearch.com comprises a subdomain of the domain hotsearch.com.

It is not always necessary to register a new domain name when the one you already own will work perfectly fine. Rather than registering a new domain name, you can always create a subdomain using a domain you already own.
A subdomain is a second website, with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and change the www to another name. The subdomain name looks like forums.domain.com, help.domain.com, help2.domain.com (assuming you already host domain.com).
Note: Your control panel may look slightly different depending on the theme you are using, however the steps will be the same for all themes based off of the X3 theme.
To create a subdomain, please do the following:
Login to cPanel and click Subdomains.
In the drop-down, choose the domain.
In the box before the domain, type the subdomain name you want.
Click inside the "Document Root" box and it will auto-fill.
Hit the Create button.
To delete a subdomain, please do the following:
Login to cPanel and click Subdomains.
At the bottom, under Actions, click Remove.

A subdomain is basically a child domain under a larger parent domain name. In the larger scheme of the Domain Name System, it is considered a third-level domain used to organize site content. In the Web address example above (gallery.mysite.com), the suffix ".com" is the first-level domain, "mysite" is the second-level domain and "gallery" is the third-level domain.
Uses of subdomains include:
- Organizing website content according to category, i.e., gallery.mysite.com, faq.mysite.com and store.mysite.com
- Sharing the allotted domain space with other users by providing them subdomains and their own username and password with varying levels of feature access. For example, admin.mysite.com, user1.mysite.com and guest.mysite.com
- Shortening long links and making them easy to remember. For example, the link "http://mysite.com/offers/bonus/referal_id^56$#9?.asp" can be placed into the subdomain "referral.mysite.com" to make it easier to navigate and remember.

This video and the information below it explain what subdomains are and how they are used to forward to URLs or point to IP addresses and directories within your hosting account.
It’s easy to create a memorable Web address for unique content areas of your site by using subdomains. For example, you could create a subdomain for pictures on your site called "pics" that is accessible through the URL pics.coolexample.com in addition to www.coolexample.com/pics.
You can add up to 100 subdomains per domain name. You can also add multiple levels of subdomains. For instance, you can add info.blog.coolexample.com to delve into an even more specific area of interest on your site. Each subdomain can be up to 25 characters long.

It is used as an easy way to create a more memorable Web address for specific or unique content with a website. For example, it could make it easier for users to remember and navigate to the picture gallery of a site by placing it in the address gallery.mysite.com, as opposed to mysite.com/media/gallery. In this case, the subdomain is gallery.mysite, whereas the main domain is mysite.com.

Domains are organized into a simple tree structure or hierarchy called the domain name system (DNS). The DNS starts with top-level domains (https://easy.gr/en/domains) (TLD) like .com or .org, which is sorted into domains and subdomains.
