Another option for dealing with duplicate content is to utilize the rel=canonical tag. The rel=canonical tag passes the same amount of link juice (ranking power) as a 301 redirect, and often takes much less development time to implement. The tag is part of the HTML head of a web page.

Canonical tag is used to tell search engine that, the content we are going to posting is taken from a particular site, and we want to publish it again in another site and not consider it as a duplicate content.

A canonical tag is used to avoid the duplicate web content issue. It will improve the site SEO. Those are used to describe the home page. Visitors used to see the canonical URL.

If you've already added canonical tags then no need to add 301 redirect. Canonical tags are more appropriate than 301 redirect. This is the best practice so you can keep them, no need to add 301 redirect.

The rel=canonical link provides information to search engines, but it does not affect how the page is displayed nor does it do any redirection at the server level.

rel=cannonical; here rel is the attribute of link tag. It is used to make search engine understand which webpage is important. Example if you have two or three pages for about us page like a.com/aboutus.html, a.com/aboutus.php and a.com/aboutus; by using this tag we have to make search engine understand what we are wanting actually. If we want a.com/aboutus, then before </head> we have to add <link rel="canonical" href="a.com/aboutus">.
