A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service. A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system, and customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.

I always look for a few things:
1. Reliability
2. Support/Knowledge
3. Price
As the others have said, you get what you pay for really. Take a look at these decent vps hosts that are based on ssd storage:

- Hostingsource.com (http://www.Hostingsource.com/)

- SolVPS.com (http://www.SolVPS.com/)

Their goal is to provide quality infrastructure hosting in world-class data facilities, at a cost accessible to enterprises, small businesses, and end-users alike.

According to my searches on internet: VPS hosting is a Virtual Private Server, and is a virtualized server. A VPS hosting environment mimics a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It is technically both shared hosting and dedicated hosting.

VPS Hosting is one of several types of web hosting accounts you can choose from to host your website online. To have a website on the internet, you need to have your website files on a web server. Setting up and managing a server can not only be expensive, but difficult too. Purchasing web hosting allows someone to rent space on a web server, making it easier for the average person to have host a website online because all they need to do is upload their site files (no server setup is needed on their part).

All three of these hosting account types are similar in the fact that they all give you a web server to run your website on. They vary in how they are setup, the features they offer, and the level of customization you can have with each one. Check out more information about our various VPS plans and features.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting (https://www.everdata.com/blog/top-5-features-of-vps-hosting-and-why-your-business-needs-them) is like living in a simplex or half-plex where you can customize everything to your tastes. However, you still need to maintain your area. Companies that deal with resource heavy applications and secured data most often use VPS.

You can opt for VPS hosting in any of the following cases:

Expansion of your business beyond shared hosting level.
An expectation for a significant increase in traffic over the next few months.
Plans to work with confidentially secured data in your business.
Intention to increase headcount which in turn requires a greater email capacity.
Plan to host multiple sites, blogs or different applications very soon.

Make an informed decision about Bare-metal (dedicated servers) vs. Virtual servers
Many people wish to invest in the first-class resources and make their business successful. On the other hand, they get confused with attention-grabbing facilities in both dedicated servers and virtual servers these days.

The main advantages of bare metal servers:
All resources of the bare metal environment belong to its sole user. Many business people who are conscious about the overall security of their data nowadays prefer the bare metal server rather than the virtual server. They reap benefits from the following benefits nowadays.
A good disk or network performance
A reasonable fee on a monthly basis
All resources dedicated to a single customer
Complete control as well as isolation of physical resources in a server
Privacy
Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of no problems associated with the multitenant environment.
The best input/output operations per second (IOPS)
The maximum processing power
The most consistent performance of the disk and network I/O
The utmost security
You have to keep in mind that the overall support options, performance and the security of bare metal environment depend on the hosting service provider.

Virtual Servers:
• VPS server running on a public node, which means the resources of the physical server are shared with multiple customers, also known as a multi tenant environment.
• Hybrid servers is the virtual server running on a private node, where the resources of the physical server are dedicated to you, giving you the ability to consume all resources of the server. One customer can have one or more virtual machines in the same server, not sharing with other customers. Monthly or hourly billing is applied for this option.

Please feel free to add information about dedicated servers/ VPS advantages and disadvantages.

VPS is the short name for virtual private server, which simulates dedicated server within shared web hosting environment. VPS (https://www.esds.co.in/vps-hosting) appears as a combination or more specifically a compensation of shared and dedicated plans. The former is inadequate for medium-sized and fast growing company while the latter is too expensive to afford for most webmasters.

Under normal conditions, VPS plans are divided into two categories: managed and unmanaged. Managed one often offers you a control panel and responsive technical support while unmanaged plan doesn’t provide them. You need to control everything yourself and, as a result, you get more control on your server.

A VPS, or virtual private server, is a web hosting solution offered by hosting providers. Like shared hosting and dedicated hosting, it's a type of digital real estate where you can host your website and content on the internet. Service providers that offer VPS hosting have physical servers that are virtually allocated to a specific user.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) which uses virtualization technology that allows each account to be treated as its own machine with its own dedicated resources and operating system. VPS provides client with much more stable hosting.

A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual server that the user perceives as a dedicated server (https://easy.gr/el/hosting/dedicated) even though it is installed on a physical computer running multiple operating systems.

How does VPS Hosting Work?

The technology behind VPS hosting is similar to that of VMware or Virtual Box. These programs allow you to run several virtualized operating systems on one machine. For example, your desktop may be running Windows 7, but you can also run other operating systems such as Windows XP or Linux without needing to restart your computer.

VPS hosting bridges the gap between shared web hosting services and dedicated server hosting services. VPS Hosting is a type of web hosting that allows multiple customers to have access to their own virtual machine.

VPS hosting divides one physical server into several servers. Virtual private servers are a good choice for website owners who desire extra control over their websites. Every VPS operates independently and have resources available to use at any time. Web masters have the ability to install different operating systems on each VPS and the servers may be configured in any way since you have full root access to the server.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting is hosting that virtually mimics dedicated server environments within a shared server. It’s become a popular choice because it is generally lower in cost than dedicated hosting but provides better reliability, security, and performance than shared hosting.
