If you are going to add dynamic content on your site using PHP or CGI scripts and want to interface with a mySQL database, then you should choose UNIX for better compatibility with these applications. However, if you are going to use ASP/Access scripting combinations, ColdFusion, VB scripts or a MS SQL Server database, then choose Windows.

Unix hosting is the most commonly used platform for web hosting on the Internet, regardless of which desktop operating system you are using. Many people design their website on a windows or Macintosh computer and publish them on the UNIX hosting platform.

Windows hosting provides a specific set of features that may be required if you are engaging the service of a web developer who is using Microsoft technology such as ASP.NET or Microsoft SQL database.
