Google's goal is to find the words or the keywords that the users typed in the search engine and because Wikipedia is a renowned international website that gives accurate answers, Google seen it as a important resource. One more thing is that Wikipedia contains about 70 different languages and about millions of pages that may contain important information. That is why Google ranks it well.

Google is plotting "killing" Wikipedia?

The total amount of traffic from Google to Wikipedia has dropped more than 250 million visit each month, according to the company specializing SimilarWeb measured traffic volume. Hinkis Roy, director of SW SEO identification, this decline is really mysterious.

Wikipedia has long been a serious competitor for the brand by taking a large amount of traffic. However, the brand is not too upset. The voluminous information on Wikipedia also brought about a huge amount of traffic to other affiliate sites.
Of course, if the reduced amount of traffic from Wikipedia, the amount of traffic it returns will also come down.

Google is not able to confirm this with Wikipedia. But this was an unfortunate coincidence.
