You can use various external tools like Alexa, Backlink Watch , Open Site Explorer, Backlink finder etc

Different tools which is used for finding backlinks of competitors websites. The tools are as follows : -

Ahref Tool
Raven Tool
Openlinkprofiler Tool
Moz Explorer Tool
Smrush Tool
Backlink Watch Tool

Some of them are free but most of them are paid. I mostly used "Ahref" for this purpose. Because it describes in detail about the competitors link building strategy along with different filters.

I personally prefer Ahref & SEMRUSH Tool, because these tools are very effective for competitor analysis and provide very accurate data.
