It stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. A Google-backed project intended as an open standard for any publisher to have pages load quickly on mobile devices. It offers the fastest mobile loading speed and user experience, so that you can support improved click-through benefits when Google rolls out AMP fully. Google AMP is available for everyone to use and HTML source code can be found on their GitHub page. AMP is basically a stripped down HTML page which restricts certain HTML, Javascript and CSS.

Requirements for Google AMP:
· Allow only Asynchronous scripts
· All CSS must be inlined
· All Styles are limited to 50KB
· External resources like images must state their size in HTML
· All Javascript must be out of critical path

AMP is a Google-backed project with the aim of speeding up the delivery of content through the use of stripped down code known as AMP HTML. Put simply, AMP is a way to build web pages for static content (pages that don’t change based on user behaviour), that allows the pages to load (and pre-render in Google search) much faster than regular HTML.

The Accelerated Mobile Pages (“AMP”) Project is an open source initiative that came out of discussions between publishers and technology companies about the need to improve the entire mobile content ecosystem for everyone -- publishers, consumer platforms, creators, and users.
