I am looking for a service that will host my online store. I hope to sell used books online, but frankly there won’t be any money in it if I use EBay or something similar. I would like to pay just some sort of fixed fee so I know where I am up to. Does anyone know of such as service or a suitable alternative?

There was a news story a bit ago about a company called Netfirms - they sound like a viable alternative. See it here:

Why not do this? Start your own website with a low-cost hosting company that offers ecommerce and shopping cart tools for free. Develop you site as you can and in the meantime, list your stuff on Ebay anyway as well as all the sites that specialize in selling used books like swapbooks.com and abebooks.com. There are a bunch more sites that specialize in used books. Try this link on how to sell used books online. It lists a few more sites; http://www.ehow.com/how_108263_buy-sell-used.html.

I would agree with WebEdit,

A good simple approach would be to just setup a basic website listing your used books, and then you can setup a PayPal merchant account for free and basically add a payment button to each book so users can purchase it.

Or even setup a PayPal store with their tools on your website, its simple and hassle free.

This approach allows you to keep your costs low as you are basically just paying for the hosting, and or domain name if your chosen hosting provider didn’t provide a free domain name with your plan.

Best of luck, keep us posted.
