When we search the name of website without www. or extension like .com or any other then if website appears in search engine then its not penalized nor banned and if we don’t find it then it may be penalized or banned.

Another Way :

1) Check If You’ve Received Warning Message in Google Webmaster Tools
2) Check What Day Did Your Traffic Drop
3) Check If You Lose Organic Rankings of Your Target Keywords
4) Ask Your SEO Company (If You Have One)

Either you can use the third party websites like ismywebsitepenalized(dot)com or you can use the webmaster tool to check the messages regarding penalization.

Use SEO tool named Google Webmaster tool to check the status of your website or you can check manually on SERP by putting the url or name of your website.

If you are using a webmaster tool, you can get notification from Google. It's is the best way to identify the penalized websites. You can also find by using many third party tools but if you use paid tools only you can get best results.

Here are some helpful ways you can use to find out if your website is penalized or banned:

1. Check if you've received warning message in Google Webmaster Tools - if there is no penalty notice from Google informing you that they have penalized your site due to violation of their quality quidelines, then this is a good sign you'd like to see.
2. Check what day did your traffic drop - most likely the drop is due to the changes of Google's search results ranking algorithm, and now you have to find out what the update is all about and make sure your site does not violate Google quality gidelines.
3. Check if you lose Organic Rankings of your target keywords - if your site penalized, most of your target keywords will lose their organic rankings on search results.
4. Ask your SEO company - if you hire a a SEO firm helping you to boost your site ranking on Google search results, ask them to explain the tactics and strategies they've been using, ask them to check if your site has been penalized.
