Can anyone explain, What is Disavow tool?

Google Disavow tool enables you to let the Google know about your low quality links, instruct to not to consider those links while evaluating the website on the basis of:
- Quality/quantity of backlinks
- Neighbor hood

There can be some links from sources that were considered fine a year ago & now repositioned as spam (directory, articles, etc. links)

You can simply compile a list of such links in excel and upload in Google Disavow tool.

But you need to be very care while using this tool, carefully check each and every link manually, please don't rely on any automated tool (not even SEOmoz explorer tool). Though such tool can certainly give a fair idea of low quality links but you would again need to verify the list.

I think this will help some sites recovering and also make your competitors harder to hit your website.The disavow tool does take some time to work. The offending pages with the Corrupt links need to be recrawled before they get disavowed.
