Doorway pages is a practice in which web pages are created for spamdexing. This is for spamming the index of a search engine by inserting results for particular phrases with the purpose of sending visitors to a different page.

Doorway pages are defined as low-quality pages (or groups of pages, or entire websites) optimized to rank well for specific keywords that act as a door between users and content. Characteristically, they offer little value to visitors and serve the sole purpose of boosting SEO value.

Doorways are sites or pages created to rank highly for specific search queries. They are bad for users because they can lead to multiple similar pages in user search results, where each result ends up taking the user to essentially the same destination. They can also lead users to intermediate pages that are not as useful as the final destination.

It is practice of representing same webpage in a different way to search engine and online users. It is not proper optimization.

A page made specifically to rank well in search engines for particular keywords, serving as an entry point through which visitors pass to the main content.

An SEO technique, the doorway is meant to capture the attention of a search engine's spider by containing keywords and phrases that the spider will pick up on. Often the doorway page contains hidden text in order to load the page with occurrences of a specific keyword or phrase. Doorways typically are programmed with a fast meta refresh or a redirect that brings the user to the page that the Web site actually wants the user to visit, or the doorway will have a way for the user to manually click through to the next site. Some search engines are wary of doorway pages and penalize sites that use them

Webmasters are sometimes told to submit “bridge” pages or “doorway” pages to search engines to improve their traffic. Doorway pages are created to do well for particular phrases. They are also known as portal pages, jump pages, gateway pages, entry pages, and by other names as well. Doorway pages are easy to identify in that they have been designed primarily for search engines, not for human beings.
