A three way link exchange is refer to a kind of reciprocal link exchange among three domain instead of two. In a normal reciprocal link exchange, you and your link partner exchange link with each other.

When webmasters own more than one site, they exchange links between them which is known as three way linking.

1 way link: A link that leads either to or from a web property. If you have a link which is external to your site which points to your site it is considered an incoming 1 way link. If instead you are leading away from your site to some other property like Wikipedia or something then it is an outgoing 1 way link.
A links to B
B does not link to A

Reciprocal links: links that lead to and from two given destinations. The disadvantage to this type of link is that Google doesn't give as much link juice because it is clear that the 2 sites are working together at some level.
A links to B
B links to A

With the above understanding we can now uncover what a 3 way link is and why many theories suggest that they are powerful.

3 Way Links: Links that lead to a given property but do not receive a link back with all 3 properties connected into the event.
A links to B but B does not link to A
B links to C but C does not link to B
C links to A but A does not link to C

In this way all three properties receive 1 way links. However, Google follows the linking pattern and as a result this method is not as powerful as might be hoped.

Three way linking mean making links in a group of three website and interlinking them with links to each other site.

website 1, website 2 and website 3. In three way linking, website 1 links to website 2, website 2 links to website 3 and website 3 links to website 1. So it is like a circuit of links. The goal of doing so is to link all the websites in a network; but without cross-linking. No two websites link each other directly. So, they stay safe from cross-linking penalties. This also helps conserving the link juice within the website network.

Assume you and your friends run a blog network. There are around 50 different blogs. Obviously, you all will want to flow the traffic and link juice through all your blogs. For that you will link each other’s blog. These are called cross links or reciprocal links. And it is two way link building. But Google and other search engines don’t take this in normal way.

To overcome this, webmasters have developed a new way of link building. And it is three way link building. There can be 3 individual websites, groups or a huge network of websites. Usually in a network, the websites are hosted on servers at different locations. This promotes GEO-diversity in the network.

Three-way link exchange is the process of interlinking the website with each other from the same or different owner.

3 way linking express intent to manipulate search results. This typically means they are trying to make automated bots think their ideas are better than they are.

Most people engaging in 3 way link exchanges are doing it with the express intent to manipulate search results. This typically means they are trying to make automated bots think their ideas are better than they are, and are willing to do deceptive things to do it.

Three way linking, some webmasters have own multipal sites and try to build up one of their specific sites by offering link exchanges from their other sites. in doing this they add a link to you on their other site and get you to link to the main site they are trying to build up.
