HTML Sitemaps are not very important for SEO but can provide a list of pages that can be indexed by a search engine crawler. However, this is not the preferred format used for search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. If you are interested in helping your SEO, create an XML sitemaps and submit it to the search engines manually. XML sitemaps contain much more information like Change Frequency, Priority, and the Last Edited date that help search engines know what to show in search engine results and also when to come back to crawl the website again.

HTML sitemap has information for a website for the visitor.
A sitemap can be useful, though not required, for the purpose of getting more pages of your site into the Google index. The notice that an XML sitemap will improve rankings within google is a myth.

HTML sitemaps are not typically used for SEO purposes - these sitemaps are created and available for viewing by website visitors to help them navigate through a website. Usually, they are setup with a linear structure showing the hierarchy of the site from top level pages to lower level ones

The HTML Sitemap is more like the ones you see in shopping malls, telling you where the Zara store is, so you can hop over there directly and not have to walk two miles hunting for it. This type of sitemap is meant for us mere mortals, unlike the XML, which only the Google gods can view!
