In layman's terms, indexing is the process of adding webpages into Google search. Depending upon which meta tag you used (index or NO-index), Google will crawl and index your pages. A no-index tag means that that page will not be added into the web search's index. By default, every WordPress post and page is indexed

People often get confused with the two integral terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Crawling and Indexing. Both are the part of the steps that any search engine follows to rank & display the website in Search Engine Result Pages (SERP). Many technocrats even after working for so many years in IT industry could not distinguish the difference between these terms, so understand it very carefully.

Crawling-: When any search engine sends their bots or spiders or crawler to visit the whole website by following the links on each web page, that process is known as Web Crawling in technical terms.

Indexing-: When any search engine basically list your web page (which is mostly the keywords and not whole content!) and stores it in their massive data centers so that it can be utilized later, that process is known as Indexing in technical terms.

In SEO, indexing and crawling are usually done by web crawlers of search engines. Crawling is the method in which web crawl visits and crawls your website and indexing is the method in which web crawlers saves the website in its database after crawling the whole website and marks it visible on search engine.

One perfect example of terms that are incorrectly used synonymously is Crawling and Indexing. Whether the writer understands the difference or not, in many SEO articles it leads the reader to believe the two words mean the same thing. They most definitely do not.
