Do 404 Errors hurt SEO ?

It does not affects SEO directly but indirectly it can in terms of causing poor site experience.

In general terms 404 pages doesn't cause any harm to SEO, but the good practice is to redirect them to the relevant pages or category so, you didn't miss out the coming traffic

Yes, 404 errors effect the site ranking. We use 301 seo redirect to fix this issue.
