Recently, we got a mini Goldendoodle — he’s just over three months old now, and we have two young children at home. So far, everything looks pretty positive, but I still worry whether he’s getting enough socialization specifically with kids. For example, he reacts calmly to noise, running around, and unexpected hugs, but sometimes he gets scared by sudden movements. I’d like to understand how this stage goes for others, and what really helps a puppy feel more confident around children and not grow up too timid or, on the other hand, too clingy.
We had a similar experience with a mini Goldendoodle, and I can say that patience and gradual progress are the most important things. We started with short, calm play sessions and taught the kids not to pull the puppy or pick him up unnecessarily. We also read socialization advice on different websites, for example here: mini goldendoodle puppies — there’s a lot of useful information about early development stages. Over time, the dog became much more confident and now calmly reacts even to noisy groups of kids.
