Hi everyone. Small business owner here, we are outgrowing our current office and moving about twenty miles across the metro. Twelve desks, a small server rack, a conference table that I am fairly sure was assembled inside the room it sits in, and roughly forty boxes of files that our lawyer says cannot travel in an unmarked truck. We cannot afford more than a weekend of downtime. Has anyone here moved an office of this size? Mostly I want to know how far ahead to book, whether weekend work costs extra, and how people handle the IT side without losing a full day.
Book six to eight weeks out for a weekend slot, that is when the good crews get taken and the rest start quoting you overtime instead. Weekend and after hours work does carry a premium, but it is cheaper than Monday morning with twelve people standing around waiting for a desk. We used Texas movers who handle commercial jobs, and the difference from a residential crew showed up on the planning call, they wanted a floor plan and a labeling scheme before they would quote. The server rack is your critical path, so have your own IT person pull it and reseat it. That conference table probably does come apart, and if it does not, measure the doorway this week rather than on moving day.
