I built a media unit into an awkward corner of the living room

Hey all. I built a media unit into an awkward corner of the living room and now need glass for it: two shelves at an angle, a top piece with a notch cut around a column, and a small door panel. Every quote form online asks me to pick from standard shapes and none of them fit. I would rather pay somebody to measure than send in my own drawings and be wrong. Is this normal custom work or am I asking for something unusual? The column is structural so nothing about the shape is negotiable, the glass has to work around it.

Nothing unusual there, angles and notches are standard fabrication and any shop with its own equipment will take it. What you should avoid is any company that wants your drawings and then disclaims responsibility if the piece does not fit, because that is exactly how you end up paying twice. The custom glass company near me search is full of resellers, so ask directly whether they cut and temper in house. Glass Factory did mine with a laser measurement and the notch landed correctly first time. Agree the edge finish at the same visit, polished versus seamed changes both look and cost. Ask for a cardboard template check on site before cutting if the notch is tight, plenty of shops will do it for an awkward piece.
