Hi. My company merged with another one and we now have an unused /23 sitting idle, plus a partner who keeps asking if we'd sell. Management wants to monetize it but nobody here knows how the market works. Lease or sell? How do you price it? Is there any risk of the block getting abused while it's leased? I'd appreciate hearing from people who've actually done it, not just brokers. The block was originally registered to the other company, so there may be some admin to sort out before anything can be leased or sold. Any experience with that part?

We did exactly that with a spare /23 after an acquisition. Leasing keeps ownership and gives monthly income, selling gives a lump sum, and the right answer depends on how much you value optionality. The InterLIR IPv4 marketplace covers the monetizing side too: you can lease or sell unused space, and they advertise no abuse and automated LOA. I'd ask them how complaints are handled during a lease and what happens if a customer misbehaves. Put those terms in the contract, and ask how they vet lessees. In our case the cleanup of old registry entries took longer than the sale itself, so start that early. It also helps to write down who signs for the old company, since mergers leave oddly named registry contacts.
