Tumblr is a Web2.0 and also acts as a social networking platform. Posting articles in Tumblr helps to generate backlinks and traffic to your website. Also Yahoo answers server to provide 'nofollow' backlinks from answering questions. This helps to generate traffic to your website.

Google like content and tumblr is a platform where you can promote good content then Google will promote your content so I think tumblr is good platform.

In my experience, Google likes both Yahoo answers and Tumblr. The participation on both should have a decent quality in order to get good backlinks from there.

I think Google like Tumbler Blog, Because in tumbler you post unique content in its blog.
