Web directories are considered as 'thin' sites with very less content. Hence these websites are rarely crawled and indexed in search engines. Submitting your website in web directories do not help much these days except creating spam.
Web Directories still works if we submit into High DA and niche websites and keep contain some informative and lenthy.
I agree with you , web directories is corny now.
