A digital signature is a mathematical scheme for demonstrating the authenticity of a digital message or document. A valid digital signature gives a recipient reason to believe that the message was created by a known sender such that they cannot deny sending it (authentication and non-repudiation) and that the message was not altered in transit (integrity). Digital signatures are commonly used for software distribution, financial transactions, and in other cases where it is important to detect forgery or tampering.
A digital signature can be used with any kind of message, whether it is encrypted or not, simply so that the receiver can be sure of the sender's identity and that the message arrived intact. A digital certificate contains the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority so that anyone can verify that the certificate is real.
Nice and informative thread i didn't aware of this before , thanks for the post.
A digital signature is basically a way to ensure that an electronic document (e-mail, spreadsheet, text file, etc.) is authentic. Authentic means that you know who created the document and you know that it has not been altered in any way since that person created it.

Nowadays, majority of the banks are allowing their clients to handle their account through Internet, which is known as as e-Banking. And customers are utilizing this service to transfer funds, check out account balances, for sending loan applications. All these activities are very private to the customers, and banking companies as well. In such scenario, it becomes essential to apply all security methods in place, allowing customers to enjoy worry-free and secure e-Banking service.
Increasing incidents of phishing and pharming have pressured banks to look beyond password-based login process. For that reason, banks have now began implementing digital signatures based login systems to manage security and authenticity for customer logins, and their financial transactions.
Digital Signature allows you to know the document, or software or such digital content are truly authorized or not. With the help of Digital signature you are able to know who is the original publisher of document and after signed by authorized person it was ever modified or not. Digital Signature is the best encryption technology and used by Digital certificates to secure the digital communication. Digital signature are most useful for Software Distributors and similar online business like that.
a digital code (generated and authenticated by public key encryption) which is attached to an electronically transmitted document to verify its contents and the sender's identity.
Digital Signature is a long numeric code which is used for security purpose of the System, its provide a key after entering that key we are authorized for any documentation, it may exist both side user as well as client side.
digital Signature allows you to know the document are truly authorized or not.
A digital signature is an electronic signature that can be used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or the signer of a document, and possibly to ensure that the original content of the message or document that has been sent is unchanged.

Digital signature is a digital code that can be attached to an electronically transmitted message that uniquely identifies the sender, as explained by webopedia.
A digital signature is a mathematical scheme for demonstrating the authenticity of a digital message or document.
With his private key and the right software, Bob can put digital signatures on documents and other data. A digital signature is a "stamp" Bob places on the data which is unique to Bob, and is very difficult to forge.
A digital signature is a mathematical technique used to validate the authenticity and integrity of a message, software, or digital document.
The digital equivalent of a handwritten signature or stamped seal, but offering far more inherent security, a digital signature is intended to solve the problem of tampering and impersonation in digital communications.
A Electronic Trademark Certification (DSC) is a secure digital key that confirms the identification of the owner, from a Validating Power (CA).

Thanks for sharing your views about digital signature, I did not knew about this before reading this stuff.

Digital signatures are based on public key cryptography, also known as asymmetric cryptography . Using a public key algorithm, one can generate two keys that are mathematically linked: one private and one public. To create a digital signature, signing software (such as an email program) creates a one-way hash of the electronic data to be signed. The private key is then used to encrypt the hash. The encrypted hash -- along with other information, such as thehashing algorithm -- is the digital signature. The reason for encrypting the hash instead of the entire message or document is that a hash function can convert an arbitrary input into a fixed length value, which is usually much shorter.
Digital signatures are among the most important components of an e-signature program, and they can drive security, legal validity, and records management efficiency when using an electronic signing method.
Importance of Digital Signature:
Protecting the signature at the point of signing
Protecting the signature in storage
Protecting the signature on mobile devices
