Even Use of External JS and CSS Files and Use of Caching Systems will optimize the website speed.
Use a CDN service to serve images.
These are all good tips. You can also look into Google's Page Speed Service. I believe it's paid, but they do have a limited trial. I've worked with it before and it works pretty well. I would undertake all of the above suggestions first - in the same order. optimize your site first, then look into a CDN.
