Well flash would hurt you in 2 ways. If the entire site is in flash and then or if your navigation is in flash. search engines need to be able to see the links in order to crawl and index them. If your using flas your content within it wont get read.
paticipating in Yahoo! answer is a great way plus pinging your blog for faster index:)..dofollow is a ++
If you're using flash element you should follow the optimization method for flash site which has been discussed several time.

google now indexes flash also so you can also use flash there is nothing wrong in that.
