Crawl depth is the degree to which a search engine indexes a website. Burying pages deep within site directories decreases the chances that those pages will be crawled.

Crawl depth allows you to only crawls pages reached within the number of clicks or levels from the starting page.

The starting page of a website is level 1. All the pages linked from the start page are level 2. All the pages linked from level 2 are level 3 etc.

Crawl depth. An important concept while talking about crawling is the concept of crawl depth. Say you had 1 link, from 1 site to 1 page on your site. This page linked to another, to another, to another, etc. Googlebot will keep crawling for a while.

Crawl depth is the extent to which a search engine indexes pages within a website. Most sites contain multiple pages, which in turn can contain subpages. The pages and sub pages grow deeper in a manner similar to the way folders and subfolders (or directories and subdirectories) grow deeper in computer storage.
