Google+ was a complete failure, it never reached the level of participation that Google expected so it was ordered to be shut down to stop wasting resources.

Google plus has long failed to attract any user attention and apart from that the recent security vulnerability in their API has made the service insecure hence Google has decided it is better to shut it down.
